Keys of a Gospel Centered Church
The Keys study is designed to help gospel-centered people make gospel-centered churches.
Chapter video discussions are listed below, intended to be extensions of the study material.
1 - Gospel: Emphasized and Centered
We emphasize the gospel. We never assume it and never tire of it. We speak the gospel in every gathering and help every person understand and fluently speak the gospel. Further, we teach all Scripture in light of the gospel and its overarching theme and the center point of every topic of theology and element of life.
2 - Church: The New Spiritual Family
We believe that God’s family on Mission is the primary structure for making disciples and is marked by Spirit-crafted love for one another. In order to accomplish the mission of making disciples we must create environments where life on life, life in community and life on mission can occur.
3 - Mission: Going and Telling
The church has a clear biblical mandate to look beyond its own community to the neighborhood, the nation, and the world as a whole; thus mission is not a program in the church but an essential identity of the church. We are responsible neither to retreat from our culture nor to conform to it, but with humility, through the Spirit and the truth of the gospel, to engage it boldly.
4 - Leadership: Plural Eldership
We believe Christ has designed the church to be led by a group of equal men who are Biblically qualified in character, knowledge, and giftedness who have been appointed by the local church. Saved and loved by Him, they have been commissioned to oversee his local churches by personally, authentically loving Christ themselves as they lead the church in the Word, prayer, and loving care.
5 - Word: Expositional and Systematic
We believe God’s Word preached in sequence within books and portions of books of the Bible must be the regular manner of preaching in a church. This then must be supplemented by further instruction aside from sermons where the church will be equipped by teaching covering the many topics and synthesized priorities of the Scriptures.
6 - Prayer: Scripture-fed / Spirit-led
If the Word is the mouth of God, then prayer is the opportunity to reply in the ear of God. It is the foremost means of response to our Father and must be a central pursuit of each individual Christian and the local church together at every level. Our confidence flows from his instruction to pray with intimacy and confidence in the Father’s deep and eager love for us. As the family of the Father, we gather around him, pouring out our hearts in admiration, confession, need, and thanksgiving.
7 - Discipleship: Individually Equipping
We believe God has called the local church to watch over and develop the mind, heart and giftedness of every individual Christian. This process of discipleship is both corporate and personal. True discipleship will seek to deepen one’s walk with God, foster a deep and sacrificial love for the family of God and fuel a passion to see God known amongst those who have not yet believed.
8 - Theology: Reformational and Rich
We affirm that God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, not on the basis of foreseen faith but unconditionally, according to his sovereign good pleasure and will. We believe that God’s sovereignty in this salvation does not diminish the responsibility of people to believe in Christ as it is freely offered to all people.
